New Teams strategy: CsTeamsAIPolicy

Microsoft announces a new update for Microsoft Teams with the introduction of the csTeamsAIPolicy, a significant change that will take effect from mid-January 2025. This new policy introduces separate settings for voice and facial recognition, replacing the current csTeamsMeetingPolicy and bringing enhanced functionality for meetings in Teams. Here’s what you need to know to prepare your organization for this important update.

What is CsTeamsAIPolicy?

The new csTeamsAIPolicy gives IT administrators greater control over the enrolment parameters for users’ voice and facial profiles in Teams. Unlike the current configuration, which offers a single setting(EnrollUserOverride) for both types of enrolment, this new policy divides the settings into two distinct options: EnrollFace and EnrollVoice, both enabled by default. This enables organizations to tailor biometric enrolment features to their specific needs.

Main new features :

  • Granular control: Administrators can now enable or disable enrolment of voice and facial profiles separately, offering greater flexibility.
  • New meeting uses: These profiles will enable advanced functionalities such as voice isolation, speaker recognition and automatic attribution in meeting summaries. This will make meetings more intelligent and optimized.
  • Copilot and artificial intelligence: The new policy is also designed to take advantage of the capabilities of Microsoft 365 Copilot, the intelligent assistant that helps generate meeting summaries and improve exchanges. However, to benefit from these features, a Microsoft 365 Copilot license will be required.

What this means for your organization

From mid-January 2025, this policy will automatically apply to all organizations using Microsoft Teams, on both Windows and Mac Os platforms. Voice and facial profile enrolment will be enabled by defaultunless you decide to deactivate these options before the deadline.

This means that advanced features such as voice and facial recognition will be available in your meeting rooms, enhancing speaker attribution capabilities and offering more detailed meeting summaries. These features are particularly useful in hybrid work environments or large teams where several people participate in meetings.

Privacy policy

Microsoft makes a point of specifying that voice and facial profiles are not used for any purpose other than Teams enrolment. No voice or facial data will be used to train external artificial intelligence models.

How to prepare

Before the implementation date, it’s essential that your organization takes the necessary steps to prepare for this change. Here are some key steps to follow:

  1. Examine your current configuration: Review your organization’s current policy on enrolling facial and voice profiles to assess the impact of change.

  2. Inform administrators: Make sure your IT administrators are aware of this change, so that they can adjust settings if necessary.

  3. Update documentation: If you have internal documentation on meeting policies in Teams, be sure to update it with the new information.

  4. Disable if necessary: If your organization prefers not to use voice or facial enrolment, you can configure the settings to disable these options before mid-January 2025.
