Add a timer to your Microsoft Teams meetings

Microsoft Teams continues to evolve to meet users’ needs for effective collaboration. Among the most eagerly-awaited new features is the introduction of an integrated meeting timer, a feature that will give you control over time management in your meetings.

⏱ Why a timer in Teams?

In a business environment where every minute counts, it’s easy to lose track of time during virtual meetings. The integrated timer responds to this need by clearly displaying the time elapsed or remaining, enabling organizers and participants to better manage their speaking time and keep to the agenda.

🆕 What the new feature offers

According to the Microsoft 365 roadmap (ID 494842), this feature will:

  • Display a countdown timer or stopwatch visible to all participants.
  • Set the duration of each meeting segment (e.g. 10 minutes for presentations, 5 minutes for questions).
  • Send visual alerts when time is running out.
  • Integrate the timer into the meeting interface, without the need for third-party tools or screen sharing.

🎯 For whom is it useful?

  • Meeting leaders who want to stay on top of the agenda.
  • Trainers who have to respect precise times for each module.
  • Agile teams who organize timed stand-ups.
  • Presenters who want to avoid exceeding their speaking time.

🔧 How do I activate it?

The feature will be rolled out gradually from July 2025 for Microsoft Teams users. It will be accessible via meeting settings, with customization options depending on the type of meeting. During a Microsoft Teams online meeting, simply click on More, as below, and select the timer.

Once the timer has been selected, set a delay time of up to 100 minutes and click on the Start button.

When the time is almost up, the timer’s color gradually turns red, and a small buzzer sounds at the end to signal that the time is up.

🧭 Conclusion

With the addition of an integrated timer, Microsoft Teams lets you take back control of your meetings, making them more efficient, structured and respectful of everyone’s time. A small feature, but a big step for productivity!
