Microsoft has announced that Android Teams devices will move to AOSP (Android Open Source Project) device management. This transition brings several changes to the way your devices will be managed and updated. So I wanted to take a moment to remind everyone of the importance of being careful before updating the firmware on your Android devices running Microsoft Teams. This update applies to all your Android devices, including Teams rooms, desk phones and panels outside your rooms. The update process should look like the steps below:
AOSP Device Management will replace the old Android Device Administrator solution used to manage Teams devices on Android. This migration is mandatory and has already begun! Microsoft has taken great care to minimize the impact of this migration on end-users and IT administrators, but you need to take action as the administrator of your IT assets.
For your Android Teams devices to register with AOSP Management, it’s simple: you need a registration profile in Intune, with the For Microsoft Teams Devices option below :
After that, you’ll need to update your Android devices via the Teams Admin Center portal, as you’re already doing. You’ll probably see a message like the one below, warning you that this update is linked to the migration to AOSP management:
After updating your Android devices, you’ll see two new applications appear in the Teams Admin Center Portal: the Authenticator application and Microsoft Intune. This will confirm that the update has been successful.
By taking these precautions, you can ensure a smooth transition and avoid any potential problems with your Android Teams devices. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact me or visit Microsoft’s official support channels.
Thank you for your attention, and stay safe!
