End of support for Teams Displays

Teams Displays have been a popular solution for companies looking to enhance their open-plan offices and virtual receptions. However, Microsoft has announced that support for these devices will end on September 3, 2025. In this article, we’ll explore what this means for those who use them and possible alternatives.

Ultimately, the choice of whether or not to adopt Teams screens depends on the needs, size and strategy of each company.
Microsoft will continue to support these devices for another two years after the end of initial support, but it’s important to consider all available options.

What are Écran Teams?

Teams displays are dedicated all-in-one devices featuring an ambient touchscreen.
They bring together favorite Teams features (conversations, meetings, calls, calendar and files) in a single device.
Here are some key features:

  1. Enhanced Experience: Users can use a microphone, camera and speakers (or a Bluetooth headset) for reliable calls and meetings.
  2. Seamless integration: Teams displays integrate with users’ Windows PCs, offering a complementary experience that enables seamless interaction between devices.
  3. Personalization: Users can customize the background and leave notes on the lock screen.

Why the End of Support?

The end of support means that Microsoft will no longer provide software updates or security patches for Teams Displays after September 2025. This may pose long-term security and compatibility problems.

Which devices are certified?

Today there are 3 devices with Microsoft Teams Displays certification:

  1. Lenovo ThinkSmart View Plus
  2. Neat Frame
  3. Yealink DeskVision A24

What are the alternatives?

If you’re using these devices for your open-plan or hybrid spaces, I’d advise you to opt for an Android desktop phone in Hotdesk mode.
However, if you’re using these devices at the entrance to your business as a virtual receptionist, you’ll need to install an Android phone and use the Hotline function.

Personal note

Given the limited number of deployments of these screens among my customers, I can fully understand Microsoft’s decision to end support for them.
This change may also influence companies’ adoption decisions.

If you have any further questions or would like to explore more alternatives, please let me know!
