From December 2025, Microsoft will roll out a long-awaited update for Microsoft Teams Rooms users on Android: the ability to start, stop and restart meeting recording and transcription directly from the device, without the need for a companion device. This new feature, reserved for Teams Rooms Pro license holders, promises a smoother, more autonomous meeting experience.
What’s new
Until now, recording and transcribing a Teams meeting required the intervention of another device (computer or mobile). Now, users can :
- Start or stop recording and transcription from the Teams Room interface on Android.
- Change the language spoken during the meeting.
- Access files saved via OneDrive or SharePoint, depending on the type of meeting.
Deployment schedule
- General availability (world and GCC): Early December 2025, end of December planned.
- GCCH and DoD: Deployment scheduled for January 2026.
Who’s concerned?
- Users joining Teams meetings from a Teams room on Android.
- Organizations with a Teams Rooms Pro license.
Terms of use
For this feature to be available :
- Both the room account holder and themeeting organizer must have the necessary authorizations to record and transcribe.
- If these authorizations are removed via the meeting options, the record button disappears.
- Recordings are only possible at meetings where participants belong to the same tenant as the organizer.
Limitations to be aware of
Some situations do not allow recording or transcription:
- P2P calls
- Ad hoc group calls
- PSTN calls
- External meetings
- Third-party meetings (SIP integration or Direct Guest Join)
Data and compliance
- Recordings and transcriptions are stored in the organizer’s OneDrive or SharePoint.
- Change is altering the way data is captured and accessed.
- Authorizations can be managed by administrators via Entra ID.
